Straw yellow color with pale green reflections when held in the light. Lemon curd, fresh lemon, jasmine and other white flowers on the nose with more lemon and a touch of honey on the palate.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: The perfect way to start 12 Nights of Wine. Wash away the lingering Gingerbread Spiced, Pumpkin Spiced, Fermented Turmeric or whatever kind of lattes that got you through your hectic day and prepare your palate for the next 11 stunning wines.
In order to preserve the quality of the fruit picked, this Sangiovese based wine is vinified in concrete and aged in oak for a little over six months. The result is an intense ruby colored Chianti drinking with prominent dusty cherry and fresh blackberry fruit with underlying hints of brambly forest floor and a clean, clear finish.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Light meats, lightly spiced dark meats and dark spiced fall scented candles. Be sure to savor this one - or not. It’s the holidays, so you do you.
The heavy presence of Mourvédre in this blend makes for a strong character in a light wine. Intense fruit and floral notes of stargazer lily and fresh cut strawberries that are almost concentrated in nature. Following the initial outburst of scents comes notes of peach, pomegranate and delicate spice notes to balance out the wine.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Just close your eyes and think of that warm weather vacation coming up. Oh, and get some spicy take-out to pair with this wine, spicy seafood tacos would complete the mental vacation.
A Semillon heavy blend makes for a rich and tropical fruit filled bouquet of lychee and honeysuckle. The Sauvignon blanc dominates the palate with tart, zesty lime and under ripe kiwi, like you forgot to cut off all of the skin. The Semillon lends itself to mouthfeel here with a nice weight and texture and also to complementary floral undertones.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Pop this one in your bag and bring it to a holiday blockbuster (wait, they made another Star Wars?!) A crisp white paired with buttered movie theater popcorn and a matinée is perfection.
A very attractive vintage for wines from Graves, 2014 produced wines with big fruit and firm tannins. Big black plum and cassis with baked raspberry, blackberry sorbet and a clean, precise finish with just enough grip. Also, currently the only certified Organic winery in Pessac-Leognan.
HOLIDAY PAIRING:Works wonderfully alongside putting the TV news cycle on mute, unplugging and reading a book. Fiction, please!
This is the “blend” of the two polarizing styles of what Chardonnay can be. On the one hand being full of notes of bright spring flowers, honeysuckle, lime zest, and meyer lemon. On the other hand still embracing the buttery richness and tropical fruit notes of candied pineapple and baked apple pie that Chardonnay can produce. With an average vine age of 45 years, this unoaked yet powerful Chardonnay benefits from the maturity of it’s first home - the vineyard.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Think of it as an intermezzo, before the final six wines. This balanced Burgundy pairs with pretty much everything and is a real crowd pleaser, unlike Buzz’s girlfriend. Woof.
A younger and brighter expression of Nebbiolo than you’ll find in Barolo. Still aged in large oak casks, though only for 24 months, the wine displays more of the tart raspberry and fresh snipped flower scents and drinks with flavors of bright red fruits, cherries soaked in alcohol and licorice, and a touch of forest floor bramble.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: You won't care if everybody is smiling in the family portrait or not after drinking this wine as the complex flavors and myriad aromas will have your mind occupied for hours ;)
A semi-sweet wine with wonderful acidity. Aromas of pear and banana greet you in the glass before a white-plum note and crisp Asian pear flavors round out the palate.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Use that discount code you’ve been holding onto for your favorite food ordering app and add some hot Thai or Indian takeout to your cart. This somewhat weighty white (it’s just winter weight!) is beautiful with spicy food.
A fun and unique wine made from grapes left to mature a touch longer on the vine, concentrating the fruit flavors to pie-filling like richness. However, the wine is then vinified dry - not sweet! - and aged in a combination of stainless steel and oak to maintain all of the mature fruit characteristics. Just enough velvety smooth tannins surround the core of ripe blackcurrant jam, raspberry pastry-filling and just a touch of floral-scented wood.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: The bold aromas of the wine do well to help drown out the sounds of family arguing, children demanding dino-shaped chicken nuggets and Fortnite sounds in the background.
Concentrated dark fruits and clove with touches of blood orange and cranberry with perfumey tannins. 2014 was a colder vintage that lacks longevity but makes up for it in expressiveness and accounts for some of the most austere and BIG wines from Barolo!
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Cheese and crackers! Take out the Boursin and salty crackers or strong blue and fruit preserves and make it a “fancy” night. You deserve it.
A crispy, herbaceous and mineral rich wine. Lively with crisp white peach and zesty lime notes all surrounding a clean core.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Easy and satisfying, like walking on crunchy Autumn leaves. Expertly tested and proven to expedite the wrapping of presents though sometimes with a touch less-tidy results. (They’re just going to rip it open anyways…)
Seven years is a comfortable amount of time to hold-off on opening your Médoc Bordeaux. This 2012 still has a whisper of youth on the nose with tight black fruit dominating the aromas, but as of this year is starting to show its true colors. Dark plum, mushroom and vanilla notes from the oak that have yet to fully integrate into the wine. The tannins are more present now and will only fade and smooth over with age, so if BIG wines are your thing, surprisingly the youngest in the vertical may be your favorite!
HOLIDAY PAIRING: As classic as "It's A Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve. Enjoy this last glass while getting ready for your holiday party or making final preparations for the big day. Happy Holidays from all of us here at VINEBOX. You got this!
