Translucent green in color with notes of kiwi, kumquats and ripe sweet Greengage plum. Tart, bracing acidity adds a sour-then-sweet guava candy flavor before soursop and lemon round out the unctuous finish.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: The perfect way to start 12 Nights of Wine. Wash away the lingering Gingerbread Spiced, Pumpkin Spiced, Fermented Turmeric or whatever kind of lattes that got you through your hectic day and prepare your palate for the next 11 stunning wines.
Sweet rainier cherries, spiced wild berry bramble, ripe strawberries, silky-soft tannins. Grown on Mount Brouilly, named after Brulius, a famous Roman lieutenant stationed in the area some 2,000 years ago.
HOLIDAY PAIRING:I know it seems strange, but place this red in the fridge for a few minutes before enjoying. It'll make sense once you taste it, or at least make as much sense as the word yeet your cousin keeps shouting.
Produced via the saignée method in which juice is bled off of the red wine press and vinified on it's own as a rosé wine. The wine is pale salmon in color and evokes scents and flavors in the same color range like strawberries and watermelon. The wine is soft and dry with prototypical Sancerre mineral intensity and racy acidity. The finish is fresh berry aromas surrounded by lip smacking mineral flavors and just enough weight.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Just close your eyes and think of that warm weather vacation coming up. Oh, and get some spicy take-out to pair with this wine, spicy seafood tacos would complete the mental vacation.
Super high quality Muscadet, a wine typically reserved for plastic cups and trips to the beach (which this would still completely be perfect for, btw.) Textured and rich from whole cluster pressing with fragrant almond flower and quince notes on first sniff. The mouthfeel is accentuated by flavors of sugar torched grapefruit, ripe lemon curd, fresh lemon oil and a distinctive chalky minerality that lengthens the finish. A real treat for a Muscadet .
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Easy and satisfying, like walking on crunchy Autumn leaves. Expertly tested and proven to expedite the wrapping of presents though sometimes with a touch less-tidy results. (They’re just going to rip it open anyways…)
A big, rich Burgundy from one of our favorite lady winemakers. Complex in that amongst the normal cherry and strawberry jam notes there is a strong whisper of Dr. Pepper and Cola flavors - almost cherry cola or fig like. Have no fear, the feminine touch is present in that the wine finishes light and airy. Truly a feat, and one that takes a womans touch to achieve.
HOLIDAY PAIRING:Light meats, lightly spiced dark meats and dark spiced fall scented candles. Be sure to savor this one - or not. It’s the holidays, so you do you.
Brilliant and bright with notes of fresh apricots, rainier cherries, freshly chopped Serrano chiles and a hint of lychee. Refreshing and brisk, this blend of Semillon, Sauvignon blanc and Muscadelle from Bordeaux’s Cadillac zone is lively and oh-so-easy to enjoy.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Think of it as an intermezzo, before the final six wines. This crisp and fruity Bordeaux blanc pairs with pretty much everything and is a real crowd pleaser, unlike Buzz’s girlfriend. Woof.
Dense tannins, powerful black fruits and very fine acidity. Almost black in color, the wine is graceful amongst its power. Aged for over 20 months, including 12 in barrels, the wine is ready to be enjoyed as soon as the winery releases it, with an additional few years of aging potential for those with patience. Notes of roasted nuts, toast and coffee mingle with candied black fruits and a seemingly melted oak flavor. Yum.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: You won't care if everybody is smiling in the family portrait or not after drinking this wine as the complex flavors and myriad aromas will have your mind occupied for hours ;)
A younger and brighter expression of Nebbiolo than you’ll find in Barolo. Still aged in large oak casks, though only for 24 months, the wine displays more of the tart raspberry and fresh snipped flower scents and drinks with flavors of bright red fruits, cherries soaked in alcohol and liquorice, and a touch of forest floor bramble.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Cheese and crackers! Take out the Boursin and salty crackers or strong blue and fruit preserves and make it a “fancy” night. You deserve it.
The most well-known Nebbiolo region, and for good reasons - and this time a single vineyard Barolo! Released 4 full years after harvest, 3 of those spent in oak, Barolo is a powerhouse of rich rose and anise aromas and mouth-drying tannins. The paradox is that all of this is contained within a seemingly light wine; 2015 was a warm year that produced an exceptionally ephemeral nose of strawberry, cherry, sweet liquorice, raspberry compote, tobacco and deeply scented flowers. The King Of Italy!
HOLIDAY PAIRING: The bold aromas of the wine do well to help drown out the sounds of family arguing, children demanding dino-shaped chicken nuggets, and Fortnite sounds in the background.
The most well-known Nebbiolo region, and for good reasons - and this time a single vineyard Barolo! Released 4 full years after harvest, 3 of those spent in oak, Barolo is a powerhouse of rich rose and anise aromas and mouth-drying tannins. The paradox is that all of this is contained within a seemingly light wine; coffee, vanilla, red cherry, potpourri, allspice, truffles, tar, liquorice and primordial Earth are all here. Oh, and tons and tons of enjoyable fruit on top of those gripping, addictive tannins. The 2013 vintage was cooler than usual and forced a later harvest for the fruit leading to an even more “silky” wine with striking aromatics.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: As classic as "It's A Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve. Enjoy this last glass while getting ready for your holiday party or making final preparations for the big day. Happy Holidays from all of us here at VINEBOX. You got this!
