Clear yellow in the glass with first scents of pear, white peach and nectarine. The mouth changes as those ripe fruits are replaced by ripe citrus and crisp, fresh acidity. Enough texture to carry all of those flavors along with their aromatic density though the palate with whispers of spicy white pepper on the finish. Crisp, clean and mineral - Chablis!
HOLIDAY PAIRING: The perfect way to start 12 Nights of Wine. Wash away the lingering Gingerbread Spiced, Pumpkin Spiced, Fermented Turmeric or whatever kind of lattes that got you through your hectic day and prepare your palate for the next 11 stunning wines.
In order to preserve the quality of the fruit picked, this Sangiovese based wine is vinified in concrete and aged in oak for a little over six months. The result is an intense ruby colored Chianti drinking with prominent dusty cherry and fresh blackberry fruit with underlying hints of brambly forest floor and a clean, clear finish.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Light meats, lightly spiced dark meats and dark spiced fall scented candles. Be sure to savor this one - or not. It’s the holidays, so you do you.
Produced via the saignée method in which juice is bled off of the red wine press and vinified on its own as a rosé wine. The wine is pale salmon in color and evokes scents and flavors in the same color range like strawberries and watermelon. The wine is soft and dry with prototypical Sancerre mineral intensity and racy acidity. The finish is fresh berry aromas surrounded by lip smacking mineral flavors and just enough weight.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Just close your eyes and think of that warm weather vacation coming up. Oh, and get some spicy take-out to pair with this wine, spicy seafood tacos would complete the mental vacation.
Light green in color with a richness to the nose. Notes of grapefruit, caramelized passion fruit, a touch of vanilla and some Pear Williams' as well. The fruits translate to the palate with a freshness that's balanced by minerality and fruitiness.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Pop this one in your bag and bring it to a holiday blockbuster (wait, they made another Star Wars?!) A fruity white paired with buttered movie theatre popcorn and a matinée is perfection.
A very attractive vintage for wines from Graves, 2014 produced wines with big fruit and firm tannins. Big black plum and cassis with baked raspberry, blackberry sorbet and a clean, precise finish with just enough grip. Also, currently the only certified Organic winery in Pessac-Leognan.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Works wonderfully alongside putting the TV news cycle on mute, unplugging and reading a book. Fiction, please!
This is the “blend” of the two polarizing styles of what Chardonnay can be. On the one hand full of notes of bright spring flowers, honeysuckle, lime zest, and Meyer lemon. On the other hand still embracing the buttery richness and tropical fruit notes of candied pineapple and baked apple pie that Chardonnay can produce. With an average vine age of 45 years, this unoaked yet powerful Chardonnay benefits from the maturity of its first home - the vineyard.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Think of this wine as an intermezzo, before the final six wines. This balanced Burgundy pairs with pretty much everything and is a real crowd pleaser, unlike Buzz’s girlfriend. Woof.
Château Donjon’s flagship bottling has powerful primary aromas of ripe black fruits like plum and berry with strawberry and raspberry taking over next. Very dense on the palate with concentrated dark cherry flavors and structured, developing tannins.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: You won't care if everybody is smiling in the family portrait or not after drinking this wine as the complex flavors and myriad aromas will have your mind occupied for hours ;)
Ripe and warm gamay perfect for cool weather with loads of acidity and a soft texture. Plummy and pleasant with prominent cherry and raspberry scents and just enough earth to remind you that it’s French. Try with a slight chill for a refreshing red.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Paired best with Disney movies, oversized sweaters and oversized wine glasses.
Chardonnay from Piedmont in North Italy, a real treat! White flowers and white peach dominate the flavors with citrus notes and even a touch of sugar on the finish.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Use that discount code you’ve been holding onto for your favorite food ordering app and add some hot Thai or Indian takeout to your cart. This somewhat weighty white (it’s just winter weight!) is beautiful with spicy food.
A traditional wine with a touch of modernity! Black forest fruit like blackberries and blueberries and chocolate covered cherries with oak providing an elegant aroma of toffee and sweet violets. Fleshy on the palate with good acidity and loads more of those rich forest berries. A fun wine for both new wine drinkers and traditionalists!
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Cheese and crackers! Take out the Boursin and salty crackers or strong blue and fruit preserves and make it a “fancy” night. You deserve it.
The most well-known Nebbiolo region, and for good reasons - and this time a single vineyard Barolo! Released 4 full years after harvest, 3 of those spent in oak, Barolo is a powerhouse of rich rose and anise aromas and mouth-drying tannins. The paradox is that all of this is contained within a seemingly light wine; coffee, vanilla, red cherry, potpourri, allspice, truffles, tar, liquorice and primordial Earth are all here. Oh, and tons and tons of enjoyable fruit on top of those gripping, addictive tannins. The King Of Italy!
HOLIDAY PAIRING: As classic as "It's A Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve. Enjoy this last glass while getting ready for your holiday party or making final preparations for the big day.
