Translucent green in color with notes of kiwi, kumquats and ripe sweet Greengage plum. Tart, bracing acidity adds a sour-then-sweet guava candy flavor before soursop and lemon round out the unctuous finish.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: The perfect way to start 12 Nights of Wine. Wash away the lingering Gingerbread Spiced, Pumpkin Spiced, Fermented Turmeric or whatever kind of lattes that got you through your hectic day and prepare your palate for the next 11 stunning wines.
Fresh, flighty, fruity and oh so soft. Light cherry cola scents mingle with a pronounced raspberry note before warm baking spices and berry-pie-filling flavors dance across a super light, dry and fresh palate.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Light meats, lightly spiced dark meats and dark spiced fall scented candles. Be sure to savor this one - or not. It’s the holidays, so you do you.
A rare organic vineyard of Nero d’Avola from the Italian island of Sicily. Dark in the glass, though drinking slightly lighter on its feet. Expect rich dark cherry with a present red plum note and whispers of sweet pipe tobacco and spice.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Put on your favorite Christmas pajamas and drink this one when you’re feeling overwhelmed by holiday shopping, visiting family and/or work. Everything will be better!
The more voluptuous side of Merlot, aged in oak. Big, bold fruit and almost no tannins! The super juicy fruit flavors scream finger-staining violet colors: blackberries, blueberries and currants. Time in wood adds a baking spice note to the fruit onslaught, intermingling into an almost “sweet berry pie wine,” without the sugar sweetness.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Easy and satisfying, like walking on crunchy Autumn leaves. Expertly tested and proven to expedite the wrapping of presents though sometimes with a touch less-tidy results. (They’re just going to rip it open anyways…)
A blend of 45 year old vines of Syrah and Grenache, this organic Corbières has tons of structure layered with harmonious fruit. A deep garnet color greets you in the glass before notes of ripe red and black currant, garrigue spice and richness from the oak aging catch up.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: You won't care if everybody is smiling in the family portrait or not after drinking this wine as the complex flavors and myriad aromas will have your mind occupied for hours ;)
Côt is the local name for Malbec here in the Loire Valley and into other parts of Southwest France, where the wines tend to be on the lighter side. Expect flavors of black cherries, blueberries, hints of licorice, menthol, violets and a little white pepper. All wrapped up in a chillable, easy to drink red.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: I know it seems strange, but place this red in the fridge for a few minutes before enjoying. It'll make sense once you taste it, or at least make as much sense as the word yeet your cousin keeps shouting.
Stainless steel aged Merlot - the racier, leaner side of the grape. The nose explodes with ripe cherry and even-more-ripe raspberry notes that translate perfectly to the palate and bring with them a crisp acidity that lightens everything up, and a faint sweet-herb note to keep it interesting.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Think of this wine as an intermezzo, before the final five wines. This fruit forward Merlot pairs with pretty much everything and is a real crowd pleaser, unlike Buzz’s girlfriend. Woof.
The top bunches of Cabernet grown in this Lambrusco-centered area make their way into this ruby red, easy drinking wine. Touches of herbal underbrush that you’d expect from Italy are there, but the palate is dominated by big fruity flavors of currant and plum.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: Paired best with Disney movies and oversized sweaters.
Dark and brooding with black plum, black cherry and tight tannins, the wine is still young and will soften in time. A fantastic vintage as you gear up for the penultimate night of your 12 Nights of Wine.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: The bold aromas of the wine do well to help drown out the sounds of family arguing, children demanding dino-shaped chicken nuggets, and Fortnite sounds in the background.
In the last 20 years only one vintage has been rated 99 across the board: 2010. This historic vintage is just now starting to come around in the glass; whereas 2 years ago the wines were tight and closed off, now they open with blackberry, blueberry and a density and smokiness/spiciness that only time can achieve. Supple, silky harmonious tannins on the finish are the last reminder of the cozy yarn Father Time uses to weave magical nuances on Bordeaux wine.
HOLIDAY PAIRING: As classic as "It's A Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve. Enjoy this last glass while getting ready for your holiday party or making final preparations for the big day. Happy Holidays from all of us here at VINEBOX. You got this!
