Tastes like

Intense and bright. Dense red cherry notes on the nose with red and blackberry fruits hanging around. A touch of wood and spice, but the currant and berry notes take center stage.

Perfect with

Saffron rice dishes, hamburgers, home-cooked stews.

Terra Alta translates to “High Land” in Catalan. And, to no surprise, it contains the highest peaks and altitude in Spain at over 3,000 feet. Though the most southerly in Catalonia, it’s also at the top!

100% Tinta de Toro

Tastes like

Don’t let the youthful violet hues mislead you. This wine starts with a big complex nose, followed by dark, almost stewed berry fruits. Integrated oak notes finish long and full bodied on the palate.

Perfect with

Duck breast, squid ink pasta, beef pot pie (frozen works too!).

Local Tempranillo, called Tinta de Toro, has slightly mutated to survive in the warm climate. A longer vegetative cycle, a more indented leaf and thicker berry skins all help the grapes evenly ripen.

Tastes like

Bright ruby red in color and flavor with fresh red fruit in the front and a spicy background. Tart, sweet red fruits like raspberry and cranberry are balanced by a deep cherry note and sharp acid.

Perfect with

Tapas, sausages, tinned seafood in tomato sauce.

This winery is located inside of a modernist cathedral (hence the name!) known as Catderal del Vi. The designer, Cesar Martinel, was a direct disciple of famous Barcelona designer Antoni Gaudi.

An intense core of Rainier cherry, spiced wild berry bramble and ripe strawberry are supported by super silky-soft tannins and a hint of spring flowers.

Andouille sausage, meat lovers pizza, chicken tagine with pomegranate.

Brouilly covers 20% of the Beaujolais region. As far back as 1769, the communes of Brouilly were involved in winemaking and were among the 16 Beaujolais parishes authorized to sell wines to Paris.

The flagship wine from Château Donjon is packed with flavor and intensity. Superb power balanced by nuance with flavors of red fruit, cocoa and ripe chocolate covered cherry richness.

The Donjon family waters a portion of their vineyards thanks to a centuries old agreement signed between a local village and the family patriarch. In exchange for fixing a dam, they got water for life!

Tastes like

A new style of Malbec made to be enjoyed young and fresh. The result is full of black fruits and a light, peppery structure. Juicy, mouthwatering fruit flavors come through strongly at the end.

Prime rib, stir fry veggies in soy sauce, French onion soup.

Tastes like

A big wine, but a soft wine - like a beanbag chair of comfort for your palate. Delicate yet powerful blackberry and pomegranate flavors with a pleasant, easy finish.

Perfect with

Charcuterie plate, young cheeses, bruschetta.

Only about 560 acres of Dolcetto are planted in Piedmont, making it one of the rarer grapes. These vines are next to the Moscato grapes and if you try hard enough, you can pick up a hint of sweetness on the nose.

Tastes like

A brighter expression of the grape than you’ll see in Barolo, though still aged in the same casks. Tart raspberry and fresh snipped flower bud scents mingle with flavors of cherries and forest floor bramble.

Seasoned cheeses, spicy Asian cuisine, Papa’s venison steaks.

There are two forces affecting the weather in Piedmont: the cold Alps and the warm Mediterranean. This tug-of-war temperature makes the valley fill with an insulating blanket of fog, or Nebbia in Italian.

Expressive, tart, juicy and intense! Shy on opening but once the wine blossoms, it’s a bouquet of wonderful red fruits, a touch of coffee and a handful of florals.

Perfect with

Bolognese, pesto pasta with a hint of mint, leftovers and a dream.

Italian wine laws dictate that Barbera d’Asti wines be made before March 1st immediately following harvest and be at least 11.5% alcohol. This way there is red wine to drink while the Barolo ages!
