The full bodied Cabernet fruit shines with red currant and raspberry aromas surrounding a strawberry led palate with a hint of sweetness.

Tastes like

A crisp and mineral nose with jasmine, slate and white grapefruit. The palate is fresh and fruity with asian pear, white peach and under ripe melon. A little almond paste and lime zest on the crisp, snappy finish.

Ceviche, fish tacos, white pizza

The grapevines here benefit from river-borne volcanic sediment left behind from ages ago. Located in the Northeast corner of Italy the Veneto region reaches all the way from Venice to the Austrian border.

Tinta de Toro (tempranillo)



Tastes like

Aromatic in the glass with blackberry and other wild black fruits. The palate adds on a layer of cassis and sweet fruits almost reminiscent of blueberry syrup with a touch of black pepper. Intense finish of fruit leather and sweet, cherry scented pipe tobacco.

Pairs with

Chorizo burritos, beans and sausage, molten lava cakes

The Tempranillo here, called Tinta de Toro, has slightly mutated to survive the heat and altitude. A longer vegetative cycle, a more indented leaf and thicker berry skins all help the grapes ripen in time and also provide more Phenolics so the wines are more intense and vibrant!

Castilla y Leon, Spain

Tempranillo, Merlot, Syrah



Tastes like

An aged red wine with mature fruit notes of balsamic soaked cherries and sugar roasted plums. Vanilla and cigar box spices surround a dark red fruit core. Surprisingly fresh and zippy for it's age, the finish is cocoa and cedar dusted candied cherries.

Dried sausages, hard cheese, vegetable minestrone

Castilla y Leon is the largest wine producing area in Spain and is most famous for it's Tempranillo based wines that can rival Rioja. However, in the more coastal areas, beautiful delicate garnacha can be grown to make delicious rosé!

Tastes like

Pale yellow color with peach tea and lime leaves on the nose. Some yellow melon and white flower notes lead into the lime popsicle and apricot palate swirling with flavors of raw honey, lemon Italian Ice and crushed salty seashells.

Sushi, fried cod, cheese and pizza

This particular wine is left to rest for 3 to 4 months after fermentation. This time spent resting on lees will help the wine develop texture and richness and add a sort of backbone to the palate.

Tastes like

Muddled raspberries and sweet cinnamon with tart cherry and a hint of pink peppercorn. A light wine for Rioja it manages to balance a fresh, tart acidity with the lush ripe red fruits the region is known for.

Risotto, chicken kabobs, spanakopita

Ruth and Ana, the two De Andres sisters, are polar opposites. Ruth is the winemaker. She studied chemistry and enology in Spain, while Ana is the project manager who runs the day to day operations.

Tastes like

Expressive and straightforward with blue flowers, violets, cherry liquorice like Red-Vines and a hint of blood orange. Fresh finish with more fruit than tannin.

Day 8

Cotes du Rhone, France

Rousanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Grenache blanc



Tastes like

Perfumed with elegant floral aromas. The palate is quince, peach, lemon curd and a touch of sweet chiffon. The finish is fruity and waxy with torched pineapple and persimmon pastry.

Creamed spinach, broccoli cheddar soup, radishes with butter.

The Rhone Valley, a hub of culture since ancient times, is just as popular today. Home to Chateauneuf-du-Pape or "The Pope's New House" this historical region specializes in grenache and syrah for red wines and clairette, grenache blanc and viognier for their weighty whites.

70% Tempranillo, 20% cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Trepat



Tastes like

A fruit bomb that packs a little punch. A huge nose of cherry, blackberry and currant explodes into the palate with bramble and purple flowers dominating. A touch of grip and a fruity finish.

Grilled burgers, pasta with lemon and ricotta, bacon and eggs

Catalunya is home to Penedes, the heart of Cava country in Spain. Although Cava is the focus here, growers have started to find success with still wines in all colors and styles. Typically these wines are enjoyed within Spain but this year we all get to taste them!

Tastes like

A white wine grown in the fertile volcanic soils of Mount Vulture in Italy (don’t worry, it’s an extinct volcano!) Intense and floral on the nose with a waxy perfume that leads into fruit flavors of lychee, pear, yellow citrus and hawthorn.

Pairs with

Veggie risotto, gyoza, Pad Thai

Day 11

Region --Puglia, Italy

100% Falanghina



Tastes like

Fermented in oak barrels with light battonage (stirring on the lees) for extra body and texture. The nose is ripe with exotic fruits like pineapple, mango and papaya sprinkled with lime zest and nestled in a hollowed out grapefruit with tangerine wedges and little white flowers all around. The palate carries all of these fun fruity flavors and adds soft almond and a hint of a salty sea breeze.

Scallops with parsley butter, lemon pepper wings, caprese salad

Tastes like

Beautiful pink color with garnet reflections, brilliant and crystalline. Fine and delicate nose reminiscent of red fruits. The aromatic mouth, full, opens out with finesse and balance. Red raspberry, strawberry and melon dominate the fruit flavors.

Chicken and Apple sausage, delicate tea-time finger-sandwiches, grilled ham & cheese

The family producing the wines now have had ties to the region since the 15th century. The current vigneron made his first vintage in 1996 after taking over from his father. Homie met his wife that same year working in the fields and the two of them, along with their daughter, do the bulk of the work in the vineyards and cellar. Jean Panis is a rotund balding dude with a cul-de-sac ponytail and endless belly laughs. He beams with happiness about wine and it shows through in the fruity profile of his bottlings.
